It's easy to see why Westbury Christian is one of the top teams in the state every year. We had the mentality before the game began of: “all out, all game.” We came out with some fire in our eyes in the 1st period. We were patient on offense and executed extremely well on the press break. Although we were down by 8 points at the end of the 1st period (10-18), we looked solid on both ends of the court. In the 2nd, the wheels came off and Westbury outscored us 29-2 to lead 47-12 at half. Coach Keeling and I were proud of the way the girls continued to fight all game and that was evident in the 4th period when we outscored the Wildcats 11-8. We lost by the score of 32-78, but we showed a lot of character and heart by the way we played the game.
Lindsey led the team with 9 rebounds and 3 assists. She also tied Bailee with 3 steals. We had 4 girls tied with 1 positive turnover a piece and Lindsey led the team with 3 blocked shots. Kate led the team with 15 points followed by Bailee with 8.
As a team, we shot 12 for 36 (33%) from the floor, 1 for 3 (33%) from behind the arc, and 5 for 12 (42%) from the line. Our record stands at 15-12 (3-3) with 2 district games left on the schedule before the District Tournament. I feel that we will peak at the right time when the game is on the line. We'll be a team to be reckoned with when we can put 4 periods together. We hope to enter the tournament with momentum knowing that the 4 teams advancing to the playoffs (out of 9 teams) will come from the District Tournament.
