In our hopes of reaching the playoffs this year, we battled Lutheran South in the 1st round of the District Tournament. The game started like a track meet. At the end of the 1st period, we had a slight lead 14-10. As we changed up our defense in the 2nd period, the tide turned in our favor as we outscored the Pioneers 15-6. Lutheran South is a team with a lot of heart and desire, so we knew the game wasn't over at half; we still had 16 minutes to play. In a 3rd period marked by numerous turnovers by both teams, we managed to win the third 10-6. We won by the final score of 41-28. We had spurts of great passing throughout the game. When we slowed our offense down and read the defense, positive things happened. The girls are ready to take on the Lions Lutheran North tomorrow (2-9-07). We plan to come out of the game tomorrow with a different outcome from the first time we played them.
Bailee led the team in rebounds with 8; Kate led in assists with 8; Lindsey led in steals with 8; Kate and Lindsey tied with 2 positive turnovers a piece and Lindsey and Bailee both finished the game with 1 block. Kate led all scores with 14 points followed close by Lindsey with 12.
As a team, we shot 18 for 51 (35%) from the floor, 0 for 1 (0%) from behind the arc, and 5 for 6 (83%) from the line. Our defense came out strong holding Lutheran South to 24 shots for the entire game. We hope to continue this streak on Friday afternoon when we face Lutheran North. This game will be played at 2nd Baptist at 4:00 p.m.
