In our last regular season game of the year, we faced the Crusaders of Concordia Lutheran. As we're about to enter the district tournament, Concordia was ranked #2 and we're ranked #5. Winning or losing this game wasn't going to affect the seeding of the tournament, but we wanted to build momentum before playing Lutheran South on Thursday night.
We came out slow in the first on both sides of the ball, but were only down 13-7 after one. As our defense woke up, we limited their shots in the second period and we stayed even scoring 7 points each. The 3rd period was filled with great hustle, but mental lapses on offense. We turned the ball over too many times and Concordia took advantage of our mistakes. Concordia shot the ball 16 times, including six 3 pointers. We allowed to many penetrations and were outscored 17-9. We buckled back down in the 4th, but Concordia had the upper hand.
I was proud of the way the girls continued to fight all game long. Lindsey dominated the boards pulling down 19 rebounds. She also led in assists with 3, along with Kate and Bailee. Lindsey led in steals with 3 and 2 positive turnovers, along with Brittany. Lindsey also had 1 blocked shot. Kate and Sarah both stepped up and took a charge. I love it when we take charges. We're continuing to get better at the defensive end one game at a time. Our biggest problem tonight was our 34 turnovers, which Concordia converted into lay-ups on the other end. But our girls played hard the entire game and never gave up. I'm so proud of that! Bailee led the team in scoring with 16 and Lindsey followed with 10.
As a team, we shot 12 for 37 (32%) from the floor, 1 for 2 (50%) from 3 point range and 12 for 17 (71%) from the line. Now it comes down to “do or die.” If we win vs. Lutheran South on Thursday, we will play the winner of Lutheran North (ranked # 4) and Awty (ranked #) on Friday at Second Baptist.
