On March 20, Northland played the always tough, Houston Christian Mustangs. Jeff Abt showed the Mustangs that the Cougars were here to play some baseball when he smashed a homerun in the 1st Inning. Ethan Carnes was tapped to pitch and the Mustangs were able to score 3 on some well placed hits. The Cougars attempted to cut the lead in the 2nd, but Kyle Serres was called out at home on a controversial call. HCS was able to add another run in the bottom of the 2nd. Neither team scored in the 3rd, but Houston Christian was able to add to their lead in the 4th with a two-run homerun. In the 5th Inning, the Cougars' bats came alive. Carnes knocked in Shane Knight which brought up Stuart Trahan who slammed a triple into center field, bringing home three runs. In the bottom of the 5th, Kyle Serres took the mound and the Mustangs were able to score two runs. Going into the 6th Inning, the score was 8-5, Houston Christian. The Cougars were unable to score in the 6th and the Mustangs were able to score one in the bottom of the 6th. The Cougars added one more run in the 7th, but failed just short losing 9-6.
