On February 20, the Cougars squared off against the Westside Wolves, one of the top-ranked teams in the city. The Wolves got off to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with some strong offense and base running. In the second, the Cougars tried to get something started with some aggressive base running by Jonathan Martin, but ended up leaving two on base. The score at the end of the second inning was 3-0 after the Cougars went down in order. The wolves scored again in the third inning but were prevented from scoring again when Shane Knight turned a double play. Neither team scored in the fourth, fifth or sixth innings, due to strong defense by the Cougars, including solid pitching performances by Kyle Serres and Ethan Carnes. In the seventh inning, the Cougars tried to stage a rally with Ethan Carnes reaching first base, but could not overcome strong pitching by the Wolves. Final Score: 4-0, Westside.
